SQUARE EYE PRINTING
Square Eye Printing is an independent website that celebrates printing, mainly through film. It aims to shine a spotlight on the impressive printmaking community and introduce the craft to a new generation of printers.
Curious as to why people have such a passion for print and aware of a supposed reemergence of certain forms of printing such as letterpress, Square Eye Printing started as a research project in 2014 as part of my final year studies on the Visual Communication degree course at Leeds College of Art.
What I found was a vibrant and welcoming community of printers and printmakers, from the full-time jobbers to the weekend hobbyists, the conservatives to the futurists; all of them keeping the art and techniques alive and kicking digital’s, erm, bottom whilst shouting "print isn't dead".
Keen to bring my experiences to a wider audience I met each printer with a camera and filmed their thoughts, equipment, and work to share through Square Eye Printing.
My name is Kate Green. I’m not a printer myself but I am often found ogling prints - admiring the imagination, artistry, and skill that went into producing each print.
I do not sport inky fingers as my talents lie elsewhere, in filmmaking, so I record and share my videos rather than print.
If you would like to join me in my Square Eye Printing adventures then do get in contact. I’d love to hear from filmmakers who would like to contribute, and artists and creatives who use printermaking to create their work who would like to feature or suggest content.
